The liquid pitchure shows that there are not many particles and are moving very fast. The pitchure shows that the particles are very still and quite close together. The gas shows there are very littel and are very spread apart.

What is sublimation?
Sublimation is when a solid changes to a gas without turning into a liquid. Supposing you increased the pressure of the air above the boiling liquid. What would happen to the boiling point of the water?
It would be harder for the air monacules to escape from the boiling water.
Imagine that you are trying to boil water for a cup of tea up a mountain.
There would be harder for the air monacules to escape from the boiling water.

Does water contract or expand on changing from liquid to a solid.
It expands because if you put water into a contanre and dont fill it all the way it will take up all the space.

1. Why do icebergs float in antarctic and arctic waters? Do you think there is much of the iceberg under water or is it mostly above the water? How could you test your hypothesis?
2. When you have a jar with a very tight lid, you can run it under hot water and it becomes easier to open. Why?
a1. Why beacues ice is less dense than water. I think that is there the same amount of ice on top and the bottom. To test this i would put some ice in a glass of water and see how much of the ice is above and bellow the water.
a2. because the metal cap expands alot from the hot water. Usally metal can expand for 10 percant more. So there woould be more room for the cap to come off.
Answer: A substance floats if it is less dense.

We have been learning about COLLOIDS
To make a colliod, one substance is added to a DISPERSION MEDIUM

There are quite a few types of colloid
-sol
-emulsion
-foam
-gel
-smoke/mist

Choose ONE type of colloid and
-describe what it is
-give an example - including a picture.
